Requirements

Mastery of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, XDM, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, BIND, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, PPP, HDLC, V.35, and RS-449.

Clear understanding of the communications and Internet standards identified in the PWS: 802.1d, 802.1q, 802.1w, 802.3, 802.5, 802.10, 802.11, 802.3u, 803.2, and 802.3z.

Direct experience with synchronous and asynchronous communications; Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, ATM; and other communications media used by DoD and DHA.

Experience with Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, cable testers, network sniffers, and EIA/TIA cable standards and specifications.

Mastery-level experience in routed, switched, and shared LAN environments supporting current Microsoft operating systems, Windows Active Directory, UNIX, and OpenVMS, together with routers, switches, terminal servers, and local and long-haul WAN connectivity.

Experience with DoD Health Care Information Systems and technical assignments directly related to the position's area of responsibility.

Responsibilities

Serve as the Pacific regional point of contact for network issues, configuration management, communications interconnection, addressing, multi-protocol routing, and network management.

Study vendor products and determine which components and configurations best meet DoD and Pacific Region medical treatment facility requirements.

Ensure regional procedures and standards align with DoD, DHA, and DHA Pacific Regional Command objectives and policies.

Identify, research, and resolve complex LAN, WLAN, and WAN network problems using network management and diagnostic tools.

Provide high-level installation, configuration, documentation, management, and troubleshooting of LAN/WLAN/WAN communications equipment for DHA networked facilities.

Advise and consult with Government staff, agencies, and contractor representatives on network design, implementation, deployment, and management to ensure optimal support of the Military Health System mission.
