Responsibilities

Determine and execute the best method for obtaining biological specimens from patients of all ages (venipuncture, capillary, heel-stick) to ensure quality specimens for testing. Follow established productivity guidelines with minimal errors.
Order appropriate tests in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) as requested by authorized providers. Resolve unusual or unclear test orders by contacting the ordering provider; respond to requests for lab results and send scheduled reports.
Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring comfort during blood collection.
Prepare aliquots of samples and shipping batches for transport within the hospital campus or to contracted laboratories following vendor protocols. Register, draw, and ship client specimens.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations. Promote inter- and intradepartmental workflow through cooperation and effective handoffs.
