What We’re Looking For:

Bachelor’s degree preferred or 3 - 5 years’ experience in related field

Well-rounded understanding of design principles and practices; set design, metal fabrication, graphic design, composition, layout, pattern making.

Broad knowledge of the policies and procedures used in the job.

Established ability to communicate in 2-D and 3-D.

Emphasis in three or more specialized design disciplines (drawing / illustration, computer 3-D modeling, photography / digital imagery).

Responsibilities

The Opportunity:

The Technical Set Designer designs miniature and full-size sets, scale dioramas, scenic elements, props and digital graphics for toy fairs, trade show displays, TVC’s, sizzles, YouTube video series, stop motion and toy related photo shoots – from sketches and/or formal drawings from Mattel Brand, gallery and toy display designers. Daily use of 3D CAD rendering software (Vectorworks), Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator required. This position will create executable CNC cut files for production of all elements in the design, including detail and assembly drawings for internal shop personnel for scenic/functional elements and Mattel campus improvement projects, as well as create or modify print-ready graphic files for full size and miniature creative projects. The Technical Set Designer will participate in material selection, source off-the-shelf items as needed and be a liaison between department leads as required.

The role will report to the Lead and will work at Headquarters in El Segundo, CA.

What Your Impact Will Be:

Designs and develops moderately complex projects and performs moderately complex design tasks.

Generates creative concepts and translates them into complete 3-D products.
