Requirements
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required, with strong academic credentials and active membership in good standing with the Illinois Bar.
8+ years of law firm or prior in-house experience in financial services industry preferred, with an understanding of proprietary trading firm operations and the U.S. financial services regulatory framework, including rules applicable to trading firms and broker-dealers.
Demonstrated generalist mindset with intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn new areas quickly; ability to lead new initiatives from concept through successful completion.
Proven ability to work independently and effectively under tight deadlines.
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent management skills and business judgment with a capacity to make decisions and give advice that demonstrate an understanding of overall business objectives and the risks/rewards of each situation.
Responsibilities
Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts, including trading, execution, rate, exchange, platform, software and technology agreements; consulting agreements; confidentiality agreements; corporate documentation; and other general business and legal agreements.
Advise stakeholders of potential risks, including regulatory risks, in contractual areas and propose risk mitigation strategies. Ability to advise on corporate tax issues is a strong plus.
Provide creative and legally sound solutions to ensure that projects keep moving forward to completion.
Provide general advice on a wide variety of unique scenarios as they arise in the day-to-day conduct of IMC’s business.
Work with trading teams, business owners, and the procurement function to respond to various requests for commercial legal services.
