Requirements

Experience installing, repairing, and maintaining wired data, wireless data, voice, and special-purpose network systems, including those based on copper twisted pair and fiber-optic plants

A basic understanding of telecommunications, data networking, and structured wiring

Familiarity with different categories of cabling components, e.g., CAT5 / CAT 6 and fiber-optics.

Must be able to fully and precisely work to specifications and standards that directly impact the operation and integrity of the university's services

Understand customer needs and deliver service that customers request

Experience with Aruba Networks wireless and wired switching platforms

Responsibilities

to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of Cornell's wired, wireless, and voice network infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career network or telecommunications professional who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and working across a dynamic university environment.

Complete IT service orders for data network and voice infrastructure moves, adds, changes, and repairs.

Gather equipment, tools, and other supplies needed to complete the work and coordinate with local IT staff and customers when necessary.

Assist in the installation and configuration of data network and voice electronics including, but not limited to ethernet switches, wireless access points, voice handsets, emergency phones, and UPS units.

Troubleshoot performance issues and service outages for local area wired, wireless, and voice networks and collaborate with more senior IT Field Service Technicians and CIT engineering teams to identify solutions, if necessary.
