Master's or Doctoral degree in nursing with specialized training in psychiatric and mental health care.
Minimum 5 years experience in behavior health related role.
Must obtain national certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner through bodies like the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Must be a US citizen or permanent resident, Resided in the US for 3 years in the past 5 years.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
CPR or BLS and First aid certification.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough assessments to accurately diagnose mental health conditions and substance abuse disorders, using diagnostic standards.
Create and implement personalized treatment plans that may include a mix of psychotherapy (like CBT or talk therapy), family therapy, medication, and other interventions.
Prescribe and manage medications for mental health conditions, with prescribing privileges varying by state.
Provide individual, group, and family therapy, along with counseling for long-term conditions and social skills training.
Work with other healthcare providers to coordinate complex care and refer patients to specialized medical treatment when needed.
Educate patients and their families about diagnoses and recovery goals, and advocate for the mental health needs of clients.
