Requirements

Technical diploma or degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry, Geology, or a related scientific discipline.

Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting GC/MS instrumentation.

Familiarity with associated organic extractions, separations, column chemistry, and the use of various solvent types.

Practical experience using analytical labware, including extraction columns and Soxhlet apparatuses.

High degree of comfort and strict adherence to safety standards when handling hazardous chemicals, including halogenated solvents (e.g., dichloromethane, chloroform), organic solvents, and high-concentration acids.

Knowledge of chromatographic processing software (e.g., Agilent MassHunter) is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot assigned analytical instrumentation, specifically GC/MS and GC-FID.

Process and analyze geological samples (including oils, core samples, cuttings, and soils) for testing, such as biomarker analysis and other compositional workflows.

Execute physical and chemical preparation of sample materials via cleaning, grinding, extraction, weighing, and washing.

With assistance from senior laboratory personnel and lab management, implement and manage a preventative maintenance program to ensure optimal equipment readiness.

With assistance from senior laboratory personnel and lab management, develop, follow, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure all QA/QC objectives are met.

Compile, verify, and validate accurate analytical data records.
