Requirements

Three (3) years certified crane operator experience on barge mounted and mobile land base cranes used for piledriving.

LBT - Lattice Boom Truck Cranes,

LBC - Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes

TSS - Small Telescopic Boom Cranes (less than 17.5 ton)

TLL - Large Telescopic Boom Cranes (more than 17.5 ton)

Selection Procedures:

After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following:

Oral/Performance Examination: (Weight 100%)

Qualified candidates will be tested to determine their relative knowledge, ability and skill levels in job-related areas, which may include but not be limited to: knowledge of the operation, maintenance and servicing requirements of barge mounted and mobile land based cranes, rules and regulations regarding the safe operation and maintenance of cranes, safety equipment used in the operation of cranes and pile working methods and operation, ability and skill to operate cranes on land and water, operate forklifts and small boats, drive Port vehicles, follow oral and written instructions and keep routine records of equipment operations and inspections.

A passing score on the Oral/Performance Examination must be achieved in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List. Candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction and supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor, the Piledriver Engine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining barge-mounted and mobile land-based cranes that support pile driving operations. This position may work independently or as part of a piledriving crew.  As a member of a piledriving crew, performs a variety of duties related to the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures, and may be required to assist with placing, driving, and capping piles; laying stringers and decking; framing timbers; and the demolition and removal of decayed or damaged structural or non-structural members.

Duties of the Piledriver Engine Operator include:

Safely operates and maintains barge mounted and mobile land-based cranes that support piledriving operations; drives forklifts and/or Port vehicles, and/or small boats.

Performs preventive and corrective maintenance of cranes and piledriving equipment.

Conducts pre and post operational checks of the entire crane system.

Participates in the inspection and certification of cranes and auxiliary equipment.
